Podcast delayed

I am still sick. Some may say I am sicker than I was last week, and they’d be right. What’s more, the medication I am taking to make me less sick makes me feel bad in all sorts of new ways. So I am postponing this week’s podcast until I can speak without a shaky voice or without coughing.

I’m lucky I posted my podcast when I did, as my voice and my speaking staminia is shot now due to an upper respiratory virus. Kiddo is sick too. I very much hope I’ll be better by Saturday’s podcast.

Which didn’t stop us from playing the fabulous game Go Away Monster! last night. The premise of the game is simple (it is a game for 3 year olds, after all) - you have a small game board that serves as your bedroom, and you pull items out of the bag to put in your room. Bed, pictures for the wall, etc. Also in the bag are monsters. So when you draw a monster, you’re supposed to shout “Go Away Monster!” and throw it. I was showing my daughter how to play this game. However, she’s not afraid of monsters. She loves monsters. So when I would draw a monster and throw it away, she’d get it and put it in *her* bedroom. So her bedroom soon had two teddy bears, one bed, a lamp, and several monsters. Then she drew a picture of kittens for the wall. She shouted, “Go away kitties!”

This podcast has me wondering where the podcasts for Tokyo Calling and Girl on Tech are (or just wondering if iPodder has screwed up,) reiterating that I am completely unable to talk improv into the microphone without editing out “um’s” and long pauses (no matter how “performance art” it is,) and talking about the embarrassment of shopping at the pharmacy.

I didn’t realize until I read this essay aloud how many times I said “vaginal dryness.” You’ve been warned.

Things I did not talk about that are on my mind:

  • World of Warcraft has legendary lag and legendary server problems, and is turning out not to be worth the $15 a month, even if the game does rock (when you can play it, that is.)
  • We just found out that my mom’s dog, a 10 year old rescued and formerly abused shi-tzu, is blind.
  • I am fond of parenthetical statements, and use them often in my essays. This does not translate well to spoken form. I must keep this in mind as I keep podcasting.

I apologize for the low-energy of this podcast. Hopefully by next week I’ll have shaken this thing. Also, I mention at the end that it was 9 minutes long, and was a little wrong. I blame the sickness. Yeah. That’s it.

In this podcast, two days late, I podcast about podcasters who podcast about podcasting, discuss children’s television stars, and forget to mention the porn on openpodcast.org.

I mean, hell, people. If you’re going to do porn over a podcast, don’t just do it cause you CAN and the FCC isn’t going to close you down. Do it with style, for God’s sake. The blase’ manner of these people is boring as hell, they might as well be reading a soup can’s lable. Just reading “cock” in a bored manner is about as exciting or as offensive as saying “kumquat.”

No podcast this week. The laptop is wonky and the former-sysadmin husband is working lots of hours, so I’m not sure when it will be fixed. As soon as Marvin is up and running, I’ll be doing a podcast.

Apparenly if you search for “adam savage jamie hyneman gay” on Google, this blog is the seventh page that comes up.

Mother would be so proud.

The lack of bloggy goodness is due to me taking apart our office, painting it red, and then attempting to buy myself a new desk. After tomorrow, life as a writer will be a lot more comfortable.

In this podcast, the fifth, I talk plugs, shyness, and pink.

Several things to discuss. Firstly, Happy New Year!

There were things I wanted to talk about in this podcast but, well, didn’t. I’m having sort of a bizarre misunderstanding with Dave Slusher, my podcasting idol and the person who inspired me. So I just want to say here that Evil Genius Chronicles is my favorite podcast, and Dave has just the right blend of intelligence, snarky attitude, and humor to really amuse. The fact that he’s given me two plugs in his podcast is a massive boost to my ego. Thanks, Dave!

I didn’t mention the tsunami victims, because I honestly don’t know what to say. There are several ways you can give money or items to help, the links are in an earlier post. I’m just completely overwhelmed, please give what you can. Amazon.com’s tracking of pledges through the Red Cross were up to $11,000,000 today. Damn.

I think that’s it. Today’s podcast involves me realizing that you can get so manly that you just loop right around to gay. For the record, I do not use “gay” as derogatory or a slander. I hope you find it amusing.

And I forgot to mention that this essay originally ran in Grumble Magazine.
