Geek Fu #20 - Being Knocked Up

I made it to 20! Yay!

This one goes long. I found out some very interesting information about someone from my past This week’s essay describes the joy of pregnancy (no, I’m not pregnant, this essay is from 2002).

Being treated unfairly and not being able to discuss the situation is quite often remembered for the rest of your life. And each time it gets a tiny bit harder to fully trust others.

    Enjoying your podcasts,

The whole “I’m a complete stranger, but let me touch your belly because you’re pregnant” thing used to drive my wife nuts when she was pregnant. Coming in second was “I was pregnant, and now you’re pregnant, so let me tell you my personal horror stories about being in labor, and the top 12 nightmares I heard from my friends”. I thought she was going to deck someone by the end.

Great podcast. And have fun on your vacation. :)

    Mur~
I have to say that I love your podcasts! You are an excellent writer, and are really funny too.
I have never written a comment for you before, but I felt the need to because of your short talk about sexism in gaming. I have a hard time getting into alot of Gaming type things because of it. I just wanted to say thank you for bringing some public attention to it. Even if it was small. I will comment on more later and more frequently (I have to go listen to the rest of your show now).

Sorry I’m so late getting back to these comments!

Ken, yes, the pain and the blood and the emergency C-section stories really pissed me off too.

And thanks to everyone for their awesome comments. Jamie, don’t let sexism get you down. You can find non-sexist men to game with, really! There are guys out there who think it’s great when women game, so look for them!

There are TONS of non-sexist guys who sit around on their butts in their apartments wishing that they’d meet women who like computer and board games. I can think of oh, 10 of ‘em off the top of my head… including one of my friends who is one of the greatest human beings I’ve ever met. The alpha-male-14yo-jackasses are easy to spot.

Keep looking… and maybe get a part-time job delivering pizzas. We all keep hoping that the delivery drivers are women who are attracted to gamers and will show up with our pizza and fall madly in love with us. Sadly, I’m not really kidding. :)
