Geek Fu #36 - Geek Cruises
Last Geek Music cast! From now on, I’ll be doing features on Jason Adams’ podcast, Random Signal, to introduce music. But we go out with the Beatnik Turtles, and talk about games for 2 players, Firefly, and discussions on why throwing a bunch of geeks in the middle of an ocean is not the best idea, for me, anyway.

Dear Every Single Person On The Entire Internet,
Fine. FINE. You WIN. Tomorrow I’m going to cash those cheques, and then the next day I’m going to go to Forbidden Planet and buy Firefly on DVD. Are you HAPPY NOW? You have BROKEN ME. I have now spent more time listening to people talk about Firefly, a show I have never seen anything relating to, than I have spent watching many shows I actually know and enjoy. My spirit is broken. I hope you’re all happy.
Love and kisses,
Sean.

PS,
No criticism intended, Mur. I do love your podcast. But a part of me died when this final bastion of geek-related journalism succumbed.

Terribly sorry, sean. If you dislike it, I will offer a formal apology.

If you were wondering what “Deadwood”, the Cheapass Game is. It’s a hysterical boardgame where you play an Extra actor: Ie someone who had parts like “Man with Pig on Head” and “whiskey drinker #3″. It spoofs the entire B Movie scene and is generally some of the most fun you can have with a few friends. Especially those who happen to be Drama students.
You continue from set to set trying to wrap scenes and steal the limelight from slightly better established actors whilst avoiding the film you think will be “Dog of the Day”.
I’d heartily recommend it. Hope that helps
Best Wishes and keep up the great Podcast. I was skeptical about it at first (”podcast” generally being synonymous with dead-air and the word “um”) but now I’m hooked. Really an excellent listen
John

Oh, I’m sure I’ll love it. It’s my kind of programme, generally. I just don’t normally buy DVDs of programmes I’ve never seen, so I’ve been reluctant to invest in it.

Sean — that’s what Netflix is fore (though it sounds like you’re outside of the U.S., so I’m not sure what DVD rental options you have). I got Firefly via Netflix, watched the first disc, and promptly ran out and bought the whole set.

What, they swear in Chinese on Firefly? I too will have to check this show out finally. Chinese swearing is entertainment in and of itself. Any time calling someone the price of eight eggs is vulgar is okay in my book.
Thanks for the heads up. Now I may be able to convice my wife to watch some sci-fi with me. (She’s Chinese, I can say I need her help translating)

YAY for Sean finally sucoming to the Jossness *S*
I had to post here that another great two player game is the “Initial D Card Game” It is hard to find the cards, but once you find them you can start playing. I was never big on card games like Magic and so on, but this game is great. It is easy to learn and addictive to play.
It is a great addition to any geek’s collection, check out the animie while you are at it too

I love your show, and your essays over at dragon page. I love to hear the sagas of another geek-mom, it’s great. Also wanted to mention that I would be most interested in a T-shirt.
