Duckpuppy, I think you're right in that Serenity is really made for those us that knew the show. There's lots of characterization that moviegoers just didn't get... couldn't have gotten because of time constraints. And a few of the characters served practically no purpose other than that they were part of the crew on the show and needed to be around. If the movie was ok in your eyes, give the show a try. They'll seem like people, then.

Disclaimer: I didn't watch Firefly (could never get around to adding it to the ReplayTV before it went away).

Serenity was, for me, an adequate, even enjoyable, movie... but nowhere NEAR the level that most FIrefly fans seem to be touting it. I do love Joss' work (I was a Buffy/Angel fan from the start, and even like Alien Resurrection), but Serenity didn't do anything that blew me away (at least not any more than your average Joss Whedon story). Is this because I wasn't a fan of the show? It seems that among my friends, the Firefly fans love it and the rest of us wonder why they're so into that movie as opposed to any other Sci-Fi movie. The characters didn't do anything for me (it took me a long time to figure out why I wanted the captain to win... I'm all for the anti-hero and all, but the movie just didn't make me care about him)... I can only assume it's because I didn't have the background of the show to introduce me to them beforehand.

So "Beyond the Storm" is only available as a .pdf so far? Or am I missing something on Lulu's site?

I'm glad you liked "Serenity". I haven't seen it yet, but one of the regulars at the store, and a huge "Firefly" fan, said it "ruined the show" for her. I didn't ask why, b/c I didn't want it to be spoiled for me, but I got the idea it was how some character was treated or portrayed. Who knows when I'll see it. Maybe next monday.

Mur, you must put a disclaimer on podcasts such as this one. Seriously. No food or drink should be allowed while listen to your essays like this one. I was eating soup (very hot) and gulped down a large quantity followed by spitting water (I was using trying to cool my scalded throat) all over my laptop.

Really. Loved the show. Possibly your funniest to date.

I know how you feel. I got talked into "The Race for the Cure" (breast cancer) in less than two weeks. Good luck with the race! Bring a spare pair of shoes and socks to change into at the end... especially the socks. They will feel like heaven at the end.

Glad you husband is doing well.

Hope your daughter has recovered from her illness.

Congratulations on the shiny new mac.

Serenity rocks!!! Saw it twice in pre-release (& that is in the most isolated capital city on the planet) and will be seeing it twice this weekend.

Good luck on the run.
